Founded by Peter Ireland and Elizabeth Swift in 1990, VOID makes performance and installation work in collaboration with actors, musicians, video and digital artists, robotics engineers and designers.

The company's initial work in the early nineties stemmed from an interest in science fiction novels
An ongoing concern has been with the relationship between technology and theatre.

Some productions make use of varied technology - everything from slide projectors to robots - alongside performer/technicians. Classical theatre texts regularly appear as source material in these pieces.

More recent work has used non narrative text and theatrical notions of time and space alongside technological concepts of interactivity and virtual space. Our current work is exploring the place of performance in Second Life and other virtual worlds.

Void Ideas.....
Void creates information rich environments in which narrative may be created through the cognitive or physical int eraction of the audience.
We seek to make work in which the peformance text and the performance space together function as an interactive, plural and mutable environment.

Void Places.....
We are interested in parellels between the fictional spaces of theatre, architectural space and virtual space. Site specific work has been made for locations including: an empty floor of a tower block in Chicago, a Boatyard on Exeter's quayside, Virtual locations, and a derelict gothic mansion in Gloucestershire.

Void Education.....
Education work focuses on VOID's approach to working at the interface of art and technology. It has involved everything from video and theatre workshops with children to projects made with elderly people.
